Two-year-old boy dies in Sweden after father forgets him in car
Stockholm (dpa) - A man in southern Sweden faced charges of manslaughter after his two-year-old son died of suspected heatstroke after being forgotten in a hot car for several hours, officials said Wednesday.
The incident took place Tuesday in the southern town of Eslov when
the father switched cars and realized after several hours that he had
forgotten to drop off his son at preschool.
When he returned to the parked car, the boy was lifeless.
Emergency services and the police were alerted, but efforts to revive
the boy failed, Swedish Radio news reported.
An autopsy was due Friday, but prosecutor Mats Svensson said the
heat was believed to be the cause of death as Tuesday had been "a
sunny, hot day."
Local authorities said they would review routines since the staff
at the preschool had apparently failed to contact the boy's parents
when he did not show up on Tuesday.
"We have routines about how we should act when children are absent
without prior notification," Kerstin Melen-Gyllesten of the Eslov
children and family unit said.
